I can’t get past the risk/reward ratio. It’s just too heavily skewed toward the risk side, especially during the early learning phase. I saw this play out first-hand when a couple of my buddies in college decided to become trials riders. While I was trying (and failing) to get some of the basic stunts on my mountain bike, they were going big on their trials bikes. I had already broken my collar bone on a failed jump while mountain biking, so I knew what we were doing was risky.

One day we went to the beach for a ride. One of my buddies decided to bunny hop onto a granite monument set at the top of the wall. He overshot the landing and nearly dropped off the ocean side of the wall. That would have been a 15 ft. fall onto the rocks below. I decided to call it quits.

Yeah whenever I see someone who is really good at a sport like that, I can only wonder which bones they haven’t broken.
